Rules of Tag Question

What is Tag Question?

Ø  Tag শব্দের আভিধানিক অর্থ হল জুড়ে দেয়া, অর্থাৎ কথাবার্তা বলার সময় আমরা কথার সঠিকতা যাচাইয়ের জন্য শ্রতার সমর্থন চেয়ে বাক্যে যা জুড়ে দেয়া হয় তাই Tag question বা টেগ  সাধারণত Tag question- শব্দগুচ্ছ জুড়ে দিয়ে Subject-এর কাজ বা অবস্থা সম্পর্কে Negative (Not) বা Positive (Yes) উত্তর প্রত্যাশা করা হয়। অর্থাৎ, Assertive-এর affirmative sentence-কে Tag question করলে এবং Negative (Not) এবং Negative Sentence-কে Tag question করলে তা Positive form ধারণ করে  Example:
·         You are sick, aren’t you? 
·          He is coming, isn’t he?

Ø  Tag এর মধ্যে capital letter ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। শুধু Allah এর পরিবর্তে He এবং আমি অর্থে  “I” capital letter হবে।

Ø  বাক্যটি affirmative হলে tag হয় negative আর বাক্যটি negative হলে tag হবে affirmative.

Rules of tag question:

1.      বাকের মধ্যে auxiliary verb থাকলে তার সাথে সংক্ষেপে not এবং subject নিতে হয়। [not থাকলে তা উঠে যায়। ]
Example: He is a brilliant student, isn`t he?
    You need not go to the field, need you?

2.      বাকের মধ্যে auxiliary verb না থাকলে tense নির্ধারণ করতে হয়। present tense হলে do/does এবং past tense হলে did যোগ করতে হয়।
Example: We learn English, don`t we? / We do not learn English, do we?
                  They solved the problem, didn`t they? / They did not solve the problem, did they?

3.      Sentence  Gi   মধ্যে am থাকলে are দ্বারা tag করতে হয় তবে am not থাকলে amদ্বারা tag করতে হয়।
Example: I am a student, aren`t I?
    I am not busy, am I?

4.      Imperative sentence হলে tag হবে will you? অন্যান্য modal দ্বারা করা যায়।
Example: open your book, will you?

Example: Shut the door, will you?                   
                   lend me some money, won’t you?
6.      Do not/Never দ্বারা শুরু হলে tag হবে will you?
Example: Do not disturb me, will you?

7.      Aby‡ivam~PK (Please, Kindly, Would) ev‡K¨i †¶‡Î  Would you/can you/can’t you/could you/couldn’t you  mvavibZ e¨eüZ nq | Z‡e will you/won’t you I e¨eüZ  n†Z cv‡i |
Kindly do me a favour, can you/will you?
Please lend me some money, could you/will you?


8.      Let me/let her/let him/let them দ্বারা বাক্য শুরু হলে tag হবে will you?
Example: Let me do it, will you?

9.      Let us দ্বারা বাক্য শুরু হলে tag হবে shall we?
Example: Let us go out for a walk, shall we?

10. Exclamatory sentence – subject  verb না থাকলে tag হবে isn`t it?
Example: How funny! isn`t it?

Example: How nice the flower is, isn’t it?           How beautiful the garden is, isn’t it?

Example: How sweetly the bird sings, doesn’t it?

Example: Sinners suffer in the long run, don’t they?           Birds can’t swim, can they?
14. বাকের subject হিসেবে everybody/everyone/somebody/someone/nobody/no one/none/neither etc. থাকলে ইহার পরিবর্তে they বসে।
Example: Everybody wants success, don`t they?

15. No + noun/Every + noun/Some + noun থাকলে এগুলোর পরিবর্তে they বসে।
Example: No man can prosper in life without industry, can they?

16. বাকের subject  হিসেবে nothing/something/anything/everything/baby etcথাকলে ইহার পরিবর্তে it বসে।
Example: Nothing is impossible, is it?

17. বাকের sub হিসেবে the mother/ the father/ the sister/the brother থাকলে এবং abstract quality বোঝালে ইহার পরিবর্তে it বসে।
Example: The mother rose in her, didn`t it?

Example: He’d go there, wouldn’t he?                                    (He’d =He would)
      He’d gone there, hadn’t he?                                    (He’d= He had)

19. বাকের মধ্যে hardly/scarcely/seldom/barely/little/few/never/nobody/none/nothing/no/neither/rarely
/ever /little etc থাকলে tag  not যুক্ত হয় না।
Example: She hardly visits me, does she?


20. Complex sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে main clause এর tag question করতে হয়।
Example: when he came, I was reading, wasn`t I ?

21. Subject +think/ believe/know থাকলে উভয় clause দ্বারা tag করা যায়।
Example: I think you are Razzak Saheb, don`t I ?/ aren`t you?

22. বাকের subject হিসেবে যদি all of you/ some of you/ most of you/ none of you/everyone of you etc থাকে তবে tag  you বসে।
Example: Most of you have failed, haven`t you?

23. বাকের subject যদি all of them/some of them/most of them/none of them/ everyone of them etc থাকে তবে tag  they বসে
Example: Some of them did the job, didn`t they?

24. Who cares/ who loves/who saves-  ধরনের বাক্য হলে tag হয় do they?
Example: who loves, do they?

25. বিভিন্ন person and দ্বারা যুক্ত হলেঃ
